RYAN LEJBAK CEO & Co-Founder of zu
Ryan champions zu’s exploration of advancing interactive technology. With his enthusiasm for charting new territory and his steadfast moral compass, Ryan is always demonstrating that being a techno-junkie doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment, community involvement or just treating people really well.
Ryan co-founded zu with Tony Zuck in 1995. He has demonstrated superior thought-leadership in the industry as a guest speaker across Canada and the US on social media, Internet marketing, Investor Relations and other hot topics. He uses a Mac, is the film editor for the Huskie football team and saves orca whales in his spare time. Really.
KATE TRGOVAC President, LintBucket Media
Kate Trgovac is digital marketer with 19 years experience in the online world. She is co-founder and President of LintBucket Media, a boutique marketing agency headquartered in Vancouver that focuses on social media marketing, community building and digital content creation. Over her career, Kate’s clients have included Nike, Molson, P&G, Petro-Canada, CAA and Maple Leaf Foods.
In addition to working with amazing clients, Kate has been a part-time lecturer in the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information Studies and has served on the Advertiser’s Council of the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada. She is an authority on social media, has also been designated one of Canada’s Most Influential Women in Social Media, was named a Top 10 Technology Blogger in Canada in 2008 by ITWorld Canada and is often quoted in mainstream media. Kate writes about the intersection of marketing and technology on her blog MyNameIsKate.ca.
Aside from social media, Kate’s current passion is the burgeoning area of virtual worlds and how they impact not only marketing programs, but also the creation and fluidity of personal identity. And for something a little different, Kate also writes about Funky, Chic and Cool Laptop bags and regularly advises bag designers on both function and fashion as well as how to market their creations.
KATE’S PRESENTATION
While social media is certainly on everyone’s hot list and organizations are feeling the pressure to “engage in the conversation”, there is a lot of trepidation around such engagement. Social media’s brief history is filled with missteps like Kryptonite Locks, Sony PSP’s blog, Walmart’s RV’ing across America blog, Motrin Moms, and Nestle’s Family twitterstorm. No one wants to be next week’s “Do Not Do” in Social Media 101. Kate’s presentation will explore some of the recent social media wrong turns taken by organizations and how attendees can avoid them and ensure that their own social media activities are authentic, transparent and community-appropriate.
