Recap on the AGM & #IABClunchNlearn featuring Nancy Vonk and Janet Kestin

Thank you to all the members and guests who helped us exercise our fiduciary duty. Our president, Shaun Dyer, led us through the AGM where he highlighted the many accomplishments during the 2015 year. The changes to our bylaws were adopted and we welcomed in a new finance chair, Wadzie Mukura, to serve a two-year term.

Being part of the IABC Saskatoon board is a rewarding experience and if you’re interested in learning more, please contact our past-president, Alisha Edgelow at

The lunch and learn portion of our event featured two of the most influential creative directors in the advertising industry, the women behind Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty, Nancy Vonk and Janet Kestin.

The dynamic duo encouraged attendees to challenge the status quo – especially when our inner compass is directing us. They reminded us that leadership is a mindset, not a title and they shared the importance of mentoring as a career-building strategy.

In summary, these Kestin and Vonk were inspiring – and hilarious. Their joie de vivre was palpable and their insight on point. As partners in Swim, a creative leadership lab, they now work with companies to grow and support collaborative, fearless leaders.

Miss out on this great event? You can still purchase a copy of their book Darling, You Can’t Do Both. And Other Noise to Ignore on Your Way Up. from our chapter at $20 (retail value of $24.99). As co-founder of Fast Company, Alan Webber says, “A guide to breaking the rules that stunt careers and wreak havoc at home.” Just email by June 21.

Building Your Communications Credentials The Role of Your Peers and Association

Building a professional communications career is more than working in a bunch of places. Building a solid career involves more than checking off a list of experiences. To truly give your career meaning and shape, you need to build in peer reviews, recognition, and professional certification/accreditation. In this session Ivan Muzychka, ABC, MC, will explore how you can build your career by building your credentials through peer review of your work and through systematic professional development leading to professional certification. The session will explore awards, including Gold Quill and Silver Leaf, and will cover aspects of IABC’s new professional certification program.

The session is an informal discussion and all are invited to attend.
